The JB Random Report 2/18/10

NEWS & CURRENT EVENTS

Look, We all hate the IRS, and there are many arguments why taxes on income can be considered unconstitutional, but dude, lighten up. 6 pages of bile, setting your house on fire, then you crash a plane into an IRS building in Austin? Hey Joseph Stack, that’s what blogs are for dude, so you can rant without hurting anyone. The anger in this country, within its own citizens, not foreign terrorists, has to be addressed, and I can assure you that the recently announced potential delay in tax refunds isn’t helping.

Mitt Romney was attacked by another passenger on a plane from Vancouver to LA. Maybe the other passenger thought he was a mannequin?

AMERICAN IDOL & ENTERTAINMENT

Wanna feel really old, really fast? Look at Bruce Springsteen on the cover of your mom’s AARP magazine.

These “Howard Stern on Idol” rumors have yet to die. And I’m glad they are not. I don’t care what anyone’s opinion is on Stern, but no one can objectively say that his presence wouldn’t revive a slowly dying show. Critics of the potential move obviously have no idea who Howard Stern is. He has been an innovator in radio for over 20 years. Remember when radio actually played good music? And Idol is a singing contest right? So make the connection. And let’s not forget that it was Stern who discovered Sugar Ray (ok, maybe not the best example to prove my point).
I know who I’m rooting for on Idol already, Big Mike, the chick with the really fucked up teeth that plays guitar, and the Mexican dude with the glasses, both whose names escape me right now.

John Mayer a racist? No…just an asshole. Dude, you have been famous for a while now, don’t you know better than to give an interview after downing a bottle of Jameson? Does the name Jimmy “the Greek” mean anything to you?

SPORTS

OK just what the hell is Curling exactly?

I can’t say I know a lot about Winter Olympics, but the story lines are actually interesting. Did you see that married couple representing China that won the gold in figure skating? Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo are in their 30’s and this was their last chance, and they had won every award and championship in their sport except an Olympic gold medal until now. Bode Miller finally won a medal in skiing; I just hope he doesn’t use the medal’s flat surface to snort coke or anything. Shawn White won gold as did 2 other members of Team USA yesterday. And I know it’s early, but the USA leads the medal count. Let’s go great Satan!!!

One of the best players to ever come out of one of the best UNC teams ever was Antawn Jamison. Along with Vince Carter, Jerry Stackhouse and Rasheed Wallace, had they stayed together long enough to gel as a team instead of bolting for the NBA, they probably would have been a dynasty in college basketball. The Cleveland Cavaliers already have the best record in the East, and trading for Jamison just made them a whole lot better. Win now Cleveland, because failure will give LeBron every excuse to bail on you.

And in keeping with the Olympic spirit, did you see Lindsay Vonn spread in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit website? Or Ana Ivanovic’s? Or what about Christine Teigen’s? Damn…I really, really, really like her, and …oh wait, Teigen isn’t an athlete is she? Well who cares. Have yet to see it you say? Well let me help you out

THIS WEEK’S REASON WHY TERRORISTS WANNA KILL US

A Massachusetts woman who recently separated from her husband and had her hours cut at work says an image of Jesus Christ she sees on her iron has reassured her that "life is going to be good." That and heavy drinking combined with prescription drugs. The brownish residue on the bottom of the iron looks like the face of a man with long hair, and obviously has Mary Jo Coady slowly going insane for some reason. Let’s help this poor soul out shall we? Before she starts driving a car too close to a school where small children are…

Lady, you are depressed because your life is so fucked up. We know, we live in these times too and they are not easy...but Jesus is not in your fucking iron! Go lose some weight, turn the TV off and try your best to get laid. I promise you will feel better. And remember, just because you get them from a doctor doesn’t mean that they are “good drugs.”

The 44-year-old Coady was raised Catholic (big surprise, no wonder she's a fucking maniac). She and her two college-age daughters agree that the image looks like Jesus and is proof that "he's listening." And what college would this be exactly? The same one that gives BA’s in Televison watching and hold graduation ceremonies at the nearest trailer park? Look, you wanna believe in an imaginary friend that’s fine, this is America. But when you see him in a home appliance, then it’s time for:

1-You to be separated from regular people. And…
2- Me to make fun of you.

  1. - I'm with you on the Joseph Stack incident but I'm waiting for more details to emerge.

    - Hey, chronologically, Springsteen is a senior citizen, so...(I wish I'd look that good when I'm 60, tho.)

    - For better or for worse, Simon Cowell represents--as well as Randy and Kara--the gatekeepers of the music industry. If they're gonna bring on Howard Stern, who has not been involved in music for decades now (except as a fan), then they might as well add average Joes to the panel. Then again, what do I care?

    - Even in these troubled times for print media, T&A still sells: I read somewhere that SI's yearly Swimsuit Issue is by far the top-selling single issue of ANY publication, ever. Yikes!

    - Please don't lump in loons like Mary Jo Coady with the rest of us Catholics. Thanks.

  2. Well Catholics seem to be the only ones who see Jesus in a toaster and a ham sandwich, can't blame me for that.
And their own rituals just beg for scrutiny, up to and including having a committee to decide not to sexually abuse children anymore.

  3. Hey have noticed that all those people who are willing to go to the extreme to not pay taxes are those with the most money? I know it's kinda like "good point captain obvious" but that pisses me off cause u still have assholes saying that illegal immigrants should go back to their countries because they do not pay taxes... Where should we send the assholes who were born here and are still unwilling to pay???? Hmmmmmm...

oh btw... i agree with Kiko... please do not put us all Catholics in the same bag... anything that goes from pure simple "I'm a Catholic but I barely go to Church" to fanatism is bound to bring some crazy package with it... just look at Christians and all those who sing at Church and faint and believe the holy spirit have touch them in someway and speak in different "languages" etc... are they really more sane than let's say hardcore Atheists?

  4. Well for the record I have objections towards most organized religion, those who play with snakes and speak in tounges are nuts too. However, "Catholics who barely go to church" who object to what I said are just being hypocritical. And the facts as far as the church and it's literally thousands of years of abuse is undeniable. That subliminal instillation of fear is why these crazies see Jesus in the toaster in the first place.

  5. No one has exclusivity on fanaticism, from followers of organized religion to their hard core detractors. But no organization is monolithic, therefore it's irresponsible to generalize; it just breeds more intolerance.

  6. "All catholics are maniacs" - Generalization
"Raised Catholic no wonder she is a maniac"- Opinion of which I can always defend with facts.
Catholic Church's history of abuse, torture and crimes enough to make the blind continue to be blind because of fear - Documented fact. Sorry.

  7. I guess the next time an atheist goes on a killing spree we can cite the long list of mass murdering atheists from history as a reason, catalyst, excuse, or all of the above.

    ReplyDelete
  8. When collectively, atheists have the same 1,500 year history of blood and abuse on their hands like the Catholic Church does, maybe you will have a better argument.

  9. Longevity not quantity. Got it. The millions of his own people that Stalin killed, for instance, was just in a few years. Had it been over 10 or 15 centuries it would be a valid retort from me. My bad.

  10. Stalin was one man at one time in history, not a worldwide organization with thousands of years of history of doing bad things what a stupid comparison

    ReplyDelete
  11. You know what Anonymous, we can passionately disagree but don't call my comparison stupid because it doesn't fit your worldview. Be an adult.

I used Stalin as one example; maybe I should've expanded it and used the Soviet empire instead.

As for "not all atheists are Communist or support Totalitarian dictatorship" I was addressing the atrocities of a particular atheist, not labeling all communists as atheists. Furthermore, your statement addresses my original point: not lumping everyone who follows Catholicism into a monolithic entity. (Now this has veered into the merits of religion in general...whatever.)

    Finally,
"...I wonder where Stalin acquired his violent tendencies and paranoia? Maybe at age sixteen, when he was at the Georgian Orthodox seminary...studying to become a priest" is such a twisted argument to make.

Would you say, for example, that a criminal who was an atheist and later turned his life around and became a man of goodwill when he embraced religion, already had the roots of his good nature instilled in him via his prior atheism? No, right? So why do it in this case?

I'm saying no nationality, ethnicity, school of thought, religion or lack thereof, has its hands clean of blood. Now, if you just want to say fuck religion, well, then go right ahead. I'm just trying to be fair.

  12. Yoga instructors don't stretch that far to make a point.
And sorry but the truth is NEVER a twisted argument. I'm sure if you had known his background you wouldn't have used that example.

I won't repeat myself, but I never lumped anyone into anything, just that the Catholic Church as an organization has a history of evil acts, and when you are raised as one of them it's certainly possible to see Jesus in an iron. When atheists see anyone in a home appliance or, as a singular organization (which they are not) kill those who disagree with them, or burn people for owning Bibles, now or at anytime in recorded history at anywhere near the level of the Catholic Church, you let me know.

  13. First of all, you brought up Stalin's background--not I--to make your point. You can't inject something into a discussion and then cry foul when the other party utilizes it. Second, you did make a generalization: ie, this person is a loon; they had a Catholic upbringing, therefore said lunacy is explained. You can change "Catholic" for "Puerto Rican", "animal activist", "luddite" or whatever the hell you want and it remains a fucked up, monolithic statement, since it implies that all who have had that particular upbringing are prone to the particular behavior you bemoan. And that's close to a billion people we're talking about. Third, nowhere here am I absolving the Catholic Church of its misdeeds, as anyone can plainly see by my previous comments. Finally, I'm done with this topic; it's obvious no common ground of any kind will come of this.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Well I only brought up Stalin's background because YOU brought up Stalin, and I think his background is essential to who he was, and I'm not alone in that way of thinking. I'm also not alone in thinking that being raised under any religion can lead to some weird shit, like seeing Jesus in an iron, as I believe it did in this case, once again you really need to read my responses before responding yourself.
